Commissioning Engineer – Automation Equipment Setup

About the role

The Commissioning Engineer will lead the setup and start‑up of automation equipment for industrial projects. This role combines hands‑on electrical work, PLC programming, and integration of various automation peripherals to ensure machines operate safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Perform machine setup, including PLC programming (ladder and structured text) for Rockwell, Siemens and B&R platforms.
• Configure communication buses, VFDs, and network switches.
• Manage upstream and downstream interlocks with third‑party equipment.
• Integrate automation peripherals such as labelers, checkweighers, barcode readers and vision cameras.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics to verify correct wiring and connections.
• Collaborate with corporate Project Managers and client supervisors to meet project timelines.
• Participate in pre‑commissioning activities at headquarters and oversee start‑up at customer sites.
• Document setup procedures and train operators and supervisors on equipment use.

Required profile

• 2‑3 years of experience in automation setup, with 2‑10 years post‑graduation experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Automation, Industrial, Electronics or Industrial Automation engineering.
• Fluent in German and English; Spanish is a plus.
• Willingness to travel frequently and hold a valid driver’s license and passport.
