Flight Test Safety (SMS) Manager – Aviation Safety

About the role

Airbus Defence and Space is seeking a Flight Test Safety (SMS) Manager to lead safety activities for its Flight and Integration Test Centre. You will ensure the safety of personnel, equipment and flight operations across sites in Manching, Getafe and Sevilla.

Key responsibilities

• Proactively prevent accidents by identifying hazards and mitigating risks.
• Implement, operate and maintain the Safety Management System (SMS) in collaboration with internal teams.
• Serve as the point of contact for UK MAA regulatory aviation safety articles.
• Lead the internal Safety Group, maintain the SMS Manual and support investigations.
• Handle hazard and event reports, conduct predictive risk assessments and ensure proper escalation.
• Develop and monitor Safety Performance Indicators, analyse trends and support audits.
• Promote safety awareness through messages, sessions, lessons‑learned meetings and training.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of aviation safety regulations and SMS processes.
• Experience in managing safety programs within aerospace or flight‑test environments.
• Ability to lead cross‑functional teams and communicate with regulators.
• Analytical mindset for risk assessment and performance monitoring.

Required skills

• Safety Management System (SMS) implementation and maintenance.
• Hazard identification and risk assessment methodologies.
• Regulatory compliance (e.g., UK MAA).
