Lead Nurse – Intellectual Disability (Band 8A)

About the role

The South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust is seeking a Lead Nurse for its Intellectual Disability service (Band 8A) based in the Main Building of Longstone Hospital. This permanent position offers a competitive salary band and the opportunity to shape high‑quality care for adults with intellectual disabilities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical leadership and oversight for the intellectual disability nursing team.
• Develop, implement and evaluate care pathways and service improvements.
• Ensure compliance with Trust policies, regulatory standards and best practice guidelines.
• Mentor and support junior staff, promoting professional development.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, external agencies and service users to deliver person‑centred care.

Required profile

• Registered Nurse (NMC) with current practising licence.
• Extensive experience in intellectual disability nursing, preferably at senior level.
• Demonstrated leadership and management capabilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Commitment to flexible working arrangements from day one.
