Mechanical Design Engineer – Exterior Engineering

About the role

Join Tesla’s Vehicle Engineering team in Berlin and help shape the next generation of sustainable automotive products. You will work in a fast‑paced, entrepreneurial environment alongside world‑renowned engineers, contributing to cutting‑edge exterior systems for global markets.

Key responsibilities

• Concept engineering and feasibility studies, including packaging and layout within vehicle architecture.
• Design exterior components to meet targets for craftsmanship, function, cost, and weight using CATIA V5 and 3DX.
• Create component specifications, DFMEA, and other technical design documents.
• Interpret CAE simulation results and integrate recommendations into product designs.
• Support vehicle development milestones, prototype builds, and production events.
• Collaborate with design studios, suppliers, and manufacturing teams for feasibility, validation, and production.
• Perform root‑cause and corrective analysis for production issues.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience with proven ability.
• At least 2 years of experience in automotive exterior systems covering full product lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of low/high‑volume production differences and experience with premium vehicle programs.
• Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects under tight timelines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CATIA V5 and CATIA 3DX.
• Good knowledge of GD&T for design engineering.
• Ability to interpret CAE simulation results.
• Experience with plastic injection molding, thermoforming, SMC, bonding processes.
• Capability to define test plans, design test setups, and analyze data.
