Principal Software Engineer – R&D

About the role

Cognex is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join its innovative R&D team. You will work on cutting‑edge machine‑vision solutions, collaborating with multi‑national teams to deliver high‑performance software.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement shared software components and services across multiple product teams.
• Debug and troubleshoot hardware‑software interactions on heterogeneous multi‑core systems.
• Ensure product robustness through test automation and quality engineering.
• Support and communicate with internal Cognex teams located worldwide.
• Travel occasionally to the USA or Hungary as required.

Required profile

• Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities with high motivation.
• Passion for innovation and staying ahead of technology trends.

Required skills

• C++ programming.
• C programming.
• Python development (desired).
• Embedded Linux experience.
• API development and software architecture.
• Frontend development with Angular and TypeScript.
