Senior Designer – Exterior Automotive Design

About the role

As a Senior Designer you will shape the future of our vehicles by creating inspiring, high‑quality exterior designs in both 2D and 3D. Working from our creative hub in Cologne, you will translate design concepts into precise surfaces and collaborate closely with engineering to ensure feasibility.

Key responsibilities

• Create and develop emotionally compelling exterior design proposals in 2D and 3D.
• Build virtual 3D models and produce dimensionally accurate concepts that meet program, engineering, and cost requirements.
• Contribute to the brand’s design DNA, strategies, and vision models.
• Translate design themes into detailed 3D surfaces for vehicle programs.
• Collaborate with Studio Engineering, other Ford engineering departments, and suppliers to ensure manufacturability.
• Prepare impactful physical and digital presentations for senior management reviews.
• Apply new technologies and conduct benchmarking studies of competitor products.
• Work closely with the LL6 Manager and Chief Designer to deliver on‑time, high‑quality outputs.

Required profile

• University degree in Design, Automotive Design or a comparable qualification.
• Several years of professional experience in exterior automotive design.
• Inspiring and creative approach with excellent design sensibility.
• Outstanding presentation abilities and strong organizational skills.
• Collaborative mindset, strategic thinking, and high self‑motivation.

Required skills

• 3D modeling (digital design tools).
• Physical model creation (clay modeling).
