Steel Erection Supervisor – Freelance (Duisburg)

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Steel Erection Supervisor to lead the erection and installation of heavy structural steelwork for a flagship €1.8bn hydrogen‑based direct reduction steel plant in Duisburg. The role is freelance, focused on delivering safe, on‑time, and specification‑compliant work within a complex industrial environment.

Key responsibilities

• Supervise the erection of primary and secondary heavy steel structures.
• Oversee lifting operations and rigging activities, ensuring safe execution.
• Coordinate daily activities with subcontractors and construction teams.
• Ensure compliance with HSE standards, RAMS, and site procedures.
• Monitor installation quality, alignment, and tolerances.
• Report progress, risks, and delays to construction management.
• Conduct toolbox talks and promote safe working practices on site.
• Support cross‑discipline coordination on a busy EPC project.

Required profile

• Proven experience supervising heavy steel structure erection on large‑scale industrial projects (e.g., steel plants, power or process facilities).
• Strong knowledge of lifting operations, rigging, and relevant safety standards.
• Ability to read and interpret structural and erection drawings.
• Experience managing subcontractors on site.
• Relevant certifications such as SMSTS or lifting supervision.
