Communications Consultant for Arabic Language

About the role

The United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) seeks a specialist to lead Arabic‑language media engagement. Working remotely, the consultant will support the Communications, External Relations and Partnerships Unit in raising the visibility of desertification issues across Arabic‑speaking audiences.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a media engagement plan for Arabic‑speaking audiences around key events such as the Silk Road Campaign.
• Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to identify newsworthy angles and create print and multimedia content, including case studies, feature stories and interviews.
• Prepare Arabic key messages, press releases, op‑eds and media advisories, and proactively pitch story ideas to top‑tier Arabic broadcast, print and online outlets.
• Coordinate media outreach for events, work with Arabic‑speaking spokespeople, draft talking points and arrange interviews.
• Translate or adapt English content into Arabic following UN editorial standards and analyse media coverage for message penetration and earned media value.

Required profile

• University degree in public relations, journalism, communications, political or social sciences.
• Strong knowledge of environmental and policy issues relevant to UNCCD.
• Excellent writing and editing skills in Arabic and fluency in English.
• Experience working with top‑tier Arabic media and creating high‑quality content.
• Ability to work independently as an individual economic operator.
