Financial Controller – Hyper Growth Fintech/Payments

About the role

We are looking for a Financial Controller to join a fast‑growing, VC‑backed fintech operating in the payments space. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the finance function as the company expands across multiple markets.

Key responsibilities

• Own the group month‑end close and deliver accurate management accounts and statutory reports.
• Maintain controls for safeguarding customer funds and oversee reconciliation activities.
• Serve as the primary contact for regulators and external auditors, managing annual audits and licence‑related reporting.
• Develop and maintain documentation on financial compliance, safeguarding procedures, and reporting frameworks.
• Coordinate with external advisors on transfer pricing, VAT, and payroll tax across jurisdictions.
• Manage the ERP from a finance control perspective, ensuring automation, audit‑trail integrity, and efficient close processes.
• Partner with the wider finance team on process improvements, systems projects, and ad‑hoc strategic work.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Financial Controller or senior controllership role within fintech, payments, or another regulated environment.
• Hands‑on experience working with financial regulators and handling licence‑related reporting.
• Strong tax exposure in multi‑entity, multi‑jurisdiction groups.
• Pragmatic, hands‑on mindset with solid ERP knowledge.
• Audit‑trained background preferred.
• Fluent or near‑fluent in English and German.
