Postdoctoral Researcher in Comparative Human Rights Law

About the role

The postdoctoral researcher will join a collaborative project led by Professors Grażyna Baranowska (FAU) and Başak Çalı (University of Oxford) and will be based at FAU. The role focuses on independent and joint research at the intersection of migrant rights and democratic rights across six jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct independent and collaborative research on the relationship between migrant rights and democratic rights in six selected countries.
• Map legal practice communities working on migrant and democratic rights.
• Develop a preliminary research matrix comparing how these rights interact across different national contexts.
• Co‑organise three practitioner workshops and conduct expert interviews for the project.

Required profile

• Completed PhD (or dissertation submitted by the start date) with a strong focus on migration and/or democracy in human‑rights studies.
• Experience in legal practice or working closely with practitioners.
• Proven record of publishing academic work in English.
• Knowledge of migrant or democratic rights in at least one of the case‑study countries (Denmark, Germany, Greece, Poland, Turkey, UK) and familiarity with European and international standards.
• Training or prior experience with socio‑legal research methods.
