Senior Software Engineer - Integrations - AI/ML

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer specializing in the AI & ML ecosystem, you will own and evolve critical parts of ClickHouse’s AI integrations. The role sits at the intersection of high‑performance database engineering and developer experience, building tools that let engineers and data scientists leverage ClickHouse’s speed and scale.

Key responsibilities

• Own and evolve ClickHouse’s Python connector and SDK ecosystem, improving performance, reliability and API design.
• Drive the AI/LLM integration strategy by designing connectors and patterns for RAG architectures, feature pipelines and LLM‑powered applications.
• Engage with the open‑source community: triage issues, support contributors and shape the roadmap based on real‑world feedback.
• Collaborate with Product, Cloud and other engineering teams to align integration work with platform priorities.
• Provide a practitioner’s perspective to roadmap decisions, grounding priorities in data‑engineer and data‑scientist workflows.

Required profile

• 7+ years of software development experience, including hands‑on time as a Data Scientist or ML Engineer.
• Proven experience designing, building and maintaining production‑grade Python connectors or SDKs for major platforms.
• Hands‑on experience applying AI/ML in production data‑engineering contexts such as embedding generation, vector search or LLM‑powered tooling.
• Strong knowledge of the Python data ecosystem (Pandas, NumPy, Pydantic) and concurrent programming (threading, multiprocessing, async).
• Solid database fundamentals: SQL, data modeling, query optimisation and familiarity with OLAP/analytical databases.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration and open‑source engagement.
