Senior Software Engineer

About the role

HiveMQ is building an industrial AI platform that connects millions of devices via MQTT. As a Senior Software Engineer you will join the Dev team responsible for the resilience and quality of the HiveMQ software portfolio, delivering highly‑scalable backend services for global IoT deployments.

Key responsibilities

• Architect, build, and maintain the HiveMQ platform for massive‑scale global IoT deployments.
• Design and implement self‑healing software systems using state‑of‑the‑art tools.
• Develop concurrent, maintainable, and high‑performance algorithms.
• Refactor existing codebases, extend APIs, improve test coverage and address security vulnerabilities.
• Use profilers, benchmarking and state analysis tools to identify and eliminate performance bottlenecks.
• Leverage AI coding assistants such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot.
• Solve edge cases and uncover common patterns behind them.

Required profile

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team.
• High sense of ownership and pride in delivered work.
• Proven experience shipping business‑relevant, reliable, and scalable software.
• Minimum 5 years of software engineering experience, especially with JVM‑based backend applications.
• Ability to debug complex problems and design future‑proof solutions.
• Experience designing high‑throughput, data‑intensive applications and resilient inter‑service communication.
