Mechanical Design Engineer – Body Structures (BIW)

About the role

Join Tesla's Vehicle Engineering team in Berlin as a Mechanical Design Engineer focused on Body‑in‑White (BIW) structures. You will contribute to the development of next‑generation automotive components, working in a fast‑paced, interdisciplinary environment that values innovation and hands‑on engineering.

Key responsibilities

• Create and develop BIW component and system requirements, targeting function, cost, weight, NVH, structural and crash performance.
• Design vehicle‑aligned components and production concepts using CATIA V5 and CATIA V6/3DX, and produce specifications, DFMEA and other technical documents.
• Optimize designs through analytical and physical assessments, ensuring compliance with federal regulations.
• Collaborate with suppliers, process engineers and production teams to validate feasibility and manufacturing readiness.
• Conduct component and system validation to meet and refine system targets.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience with demonstrated exceptional ability.
• Hands‑on experience in automotive body design, including at least one full BIW development life‑cycle from concept to launch.
• Familiarity with lightweight, recyclable and sustainable materials and relevant manufacturing processes.
• Ability to work flexibly in ambiguous and rapidly changing design environments.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CATIA V5 and CATIA V6/3DX.
• Strong understanding of GD&T in design engineering.
• Experience creating DFMEA documentation.
• Capability to interpret CAE results and integrate recommendations.
• Knowledge of automotive body manufacturing processes and lightweight material technologies.
