Direct Materials Buyer – Raw Materials (1-year contract)

About the role

The Direct Procurement team at Tesla is seeking a Direct Materials Buyer for raw materials on a 1‑year fixed‑term basis. You will manage the full purchasing cycle for EMEA steel commodities, acting as the bridge between external suppliers and internal engineering and material planning teams.

Key responsibilities

• Select and negotiate contracts with suppliers, focusing on global commodity strategy, quality, price and reliability.
• Ensure supplier readiness before start‑of‑production and during ramp‑up phases.
• Evaluate supplier proposals, present cost‑saving recommendations and drive continuous improvement based on KPIs.
• Conduct market research and benchmarking, with a special focus on green steel and sustainability pricing models.
• Collaborate cross‑functionally with engineering, industrialisation, quality and other departments.
• Introduce and manage new suppliers, maintaining operational commodity accounts to support Tesla manufacturing continuity.

Required profile

• Previous experience in raw‑materials or direct procurement within the automotive sector.
• Higher vocational or university qualification in material/chemical engineering, automotive engineering, mechanical engineering, business management or equivalent experience.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience in value analysis and data modelling.
• Fluent in English and/or German.
• Commitment to sustainability principles in daily work.
