Data Scientist – Travel Time & Distance Predictions

About the role

Join the Estimations team at Just Eat Takeaway.com as a Data Scientist. You will develop and improve travel‑time and distance models that power the delivery network, directly influencing millions of orders across Europe.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and validate machine‑learning models that predict travel times and distances for the delivery network.
• Extract and engineer features from operational data and run experiments to measure model improvements.
• Apply software‑engineering best practices such as clean code, version control, unit testing and production monitoring.
• Translate model outputs into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders using visualisations and plain language.
• Collaborate with ML Engineers and Operations Research Scientists on cross‑functional projects.
• Identify and implement automation for model retraining, validation and evaluation pipelines.
• Monitor and maintain predictive performance in live production environments.

Required profile

• Hands‑on experience building and validating ML models with sound judgement on method selection.
• Proficiency in Python (pandas, scikit‑learn) and SQL for data analysis and model development.
• Strong understanding of supervised learning techniques including regression, classification and gradient‑boosting.
• Knowledge of statistical foundations, evaluation metrics and experimental design for offline validation.
• Familiarity with MLOps practices such as Git, data pipelines and model monitoring.
• Experience with geospatial data and mapping is a plus.
• Interest in logistics and real‑world operational problems is a plus.
