Mechanical Design Engineer – Battery Module (Associate)

About the role

Join Tesla's Battery Engineering team as an Associate Mechanical Design Engineer focused on battery modules. You will be responsible for turning concepts into production‑ready designs while ensuring the highest standards of performance, safety, and manufacturability.

Key responsibilities

• Lead full product design from concept through production launch and ramp.
• Create 3D models of complex parts and assemblies and release accurate 2D drawings.
• Advance product performance while reducing cost and mass.
• Develop new technologies and support early process development.
• Prototype hands‑on, define specifications, and own basic testing and analysis.
• Root‑cause test failures and production issues.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, testing, NPI, supply‑chain and other internal teams.
• Maintain active supplier relationships and travel to support launch activities.

Required profile

• Strong fundamentals in heat transfer, fluid dynamics, mechanics and basic electronics.
• Hands‑on experience from CAD design to physical prototyping.
• Experience with a range of manufacturing processes (injection molding, metal stamping, thermoforming, welding/brazing, plating, heat treating, bonding).
• Ability to design for high‑volume manual and automated assembly.
• Experience defining test plans, building test setups and analyzing data.
• Detail‑oriented with solid documentation skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s a plus).
