AI/ML Research Engineer

About the role

We are seeking an AI/ML Research Engineer to join a fast‑paced, collaborative team in Germany. The role sits at the intersection of applied research and production‑grade AI engineering, focusing on designing and deploying advanced agentic AI systems and LLM‑powered applications that turn enterprise data into actionable insights.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy agentic AI systems and LLM‑based applications with emphasis on scalability, performance and reliability.
• Build and optimise AI/ML models in Python, including prompt engineering and integration with modern LLM frameworks.
• Create AI‑assistant and agent‑based applications that automate complex workflows and decision‑making.
• Work with large‑scale enterprise data systems and databases such as SAP HANA, DB2 and SQL Server, using advanced SQL for data processing and analysis.
• Evaluate and select appropriate AI models (e.g., OpenAI, Meta) based on use‑case requirements and performance trade‑offs.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to design architecture, integrate models and deploy solutions in cloud environments.
• Support the scaling and maintenance of AI solutions in enterprise‑grade environments, ensuring robustness and maintainability.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Systems Engineering or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven hands‑on experience with Python and prompt engineering for large language models.
• Demonstrated experience building agentic AI systems or AI‑assistant style applications.
• Strong understanding of natural language processing and deploying scalable machine‑learning models.
• Solid SQL expertise with experience in enterprise databases such as SAP HANA, DB2 and SQL Server.
• Experience working in large‑scale enterprise data environments.
• Familiarity with cloud AI/ML platforms (Azure, AWS) and relevant certifications is a plus.
• Ability to evaluate trade‑offs between different AI models and architectures.
