Back End Developer – AI Infrastructure (Remote Contract)

About the role

Join Alignerr as a Back End Developer focused on AI infrastructure. You will design, build, and optimise server‑side systems that power cutting‑edge AI products, working fully remotely across Germany.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain robust back‑end services, APIs, and data pipelines.
• Build scalable, high‑performance architecture for AI training and inference workloads.
• Write clean, well‑documented, testable code following engineering best practices.
• Integrate with databases, message queues, cloud services, and third‑party APIs.
• Optimise system performance, reliability, and scalability as usage grows.
• Collaborate asynchronously with distributed engineers, researchers, and product leads.
• Troubleshoot production issues, conduct code reviews, and contribute to architectural decisions.
• Work independently on task‑based and project‑based assignments on your own schedule.

Required profile

• Proficient in one or more back‑end languages such as Python, Go, Java, Node.js or Rust.
• Solid understanding of RESTful API design, microservices architecture and distributed systems.
• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis).
• Comfortable with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP or Azure) and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiar with version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines and asynchronous teamwork.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, self‑motivation and clear communication.
