Backend Engineer II

About the role

We are seeking a Backend Engineer II to join our global EdTech technology team. In this high‑ownership position you will design, build, and maintain the cloud‑native services that power AI‑enabled learning products for students, teachers, and education partners.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, webhooks, and integration layers.
• Design secure, scalable foundations for multi‑tenant education SaaS products.
• Implement data flows for assessments, feedback, learner activity, reporting and operational workflows.
• Build authentication, authorisation, permissions and audit capabilities.
• Work with PostgreSQL, BigQuery and modern cloud infrastructure; deploy containerised services.
• Improve reliability, observability, performance and maintainability of backend systems.
• Investigate production incidents, identify root causes and deliver durable fixes.
• Collaborate with product and AI engineers to translate product needs into scalable technical solutions.

Required profile

• 3+ years of professional backend engineering experience in production environments.
• Self‑directed mindset with strong problem‑solving and debugging skills.
• Ability to investigate ambiguous technical problems and make sound decisions.
• Fluent written and spoken English.
