Charge Nurse – Addictions (B6)

About the role

The Charge Nurse – Addictions (B6) will join the Alcohol and Drug Recovery Service within NHS Prison Health Care, based at HMP Barlinnie. Working closely with the Scottish Prison Service and partner agencies, the role supports the physical and mental well‑being of prisoners across four prisons in the Greater Glasgow & Clyde area. This is a full‑time permanent position with a Monday‑Friday 08:00‑16:00 shift pattern.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with Scottish Prison Service staff and external partners to deliver addiction recovery services.
• Promote and improve the physical and mental health of prisoners.
• Maintain professional and clinical accountability in line with legal and ethical standards.
• Provide nursing care across HMP Barlinnie, HMP Greenock, HMP Low Moss and HMP Lilias as service demands require.

Required profile

• First Level Registered Nurse (RGN or RMN) with a degree‑level qualification.
• Post‑registration experience in a clinical setting.
• Understanding of professional accountability, legal issues, role boundaries and the balance between duty of care and public safety.
• IT literacy in current systems and techniques.
• Ability to work independently with strong organisational and interpersonal skills.
