Chief Engineer / Facilities Manager – Hyperscale Data Centre

About the role

We are partnering with a leading international hyperscale data‑centre operator to recruit senior Chief Engineers / Facilities Managers for a large‑scale campus in Germany. The role is site‑based, overseeing engineering operations across one or more live data‑centre facilities and ensuring continuous uptime.

Key responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for engineering operations, including HV/LV, generators, UPS, cooling, BMS and fire/life‑safety systems.
• Guarantee 100% availability, resilience and compliance with hyperscale operational standards.
• Lead, mentor and manage site engineering and facilities‑management teams.
• Act as the primary technical authority during handover from construction to operations.
• Manage planned and reactive maintenance, permits to work and change‑control processes.
• Drive incident management, fault response and root‑cause analysis.
• Collaborate with construction, commissioning and project delivery teams during phased expansion.
• Liaise with vendors, service partners and internal stakeholders.
• Ensure adherence to German regulations, health & safety standards and internal policies.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a Chief Engineer, Facilities Manager or Engineering Manager in hyperscale or colocation data centres, or other mission‑critical environments.
• Strong background in electrical and mechanical critical systems within live, high‑availability settings.
• Demonstrated ability to lead 24/7 operational teams and manage complex stakeholder relationships.
• Experience supporting new builds, commissioning and operational handover is highly desirable.
