Chief Expert Robotics – Lead Autonomous Systems

About the role

As Chief Expert Robotics at Bosch Research, you will lead the translation of cutting‑edge AI algorithms into reliable, production‑ready robotic systems for industrial applications. You will guide teams from concept through laboratory validation to real‑world deployment across manufacturing, logistics and field environments.

Key responsibilities

• Drive end‑to‑end robotics deployment, turning complex algorithms into hardware‑software solutions ready for production.
• Define and steer the long‑term robotics research roadmap, selecting emerging technologies in perception, manipulation, motion planning and AI/ML.
• Foster an agile, startup‑like engineering culture focused on rapid prototyping, fail‑fast iteration and continuous testing on physical hardware.
• Collaborate with business units, product managers and external partners to ensure solutions meet customer needs and deliver clear ROI.

Required profile

• Completed Master’s degree or PhD in Robotics, Mechatronics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
• Many years of experience in robotics/autonomous systems, preferably in a fast‑paced start‑up, scale‑up or innovation incubator.
• Strong problem‑solving skills across the full stack, from electrical/CAN bus issues to software race conditions.
• Fluent written and spoken English.

Required skills

• Core robotics stacks such as ROS/ROS 2, modern C++, Python, Linux/RTOS.
• GPU‑accelerated simulation tools (e.g., NVIDIA Isaac Sim, MuJoCo) and teleoperation/data‑collection pipelines.
• Robotic learning methods including Imitation Learning, Diffusion Policy, ACT, Reinforcement Learning and Foundation Models.
• Perception and state estimation expertise (sensor fusion, SLAM, 3D vision, LiDAR/camera calibration).
• Manipulation and grasping knowledge (end‑effectors, tactile sensing, teleoperation).
• Hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing, safety engineering and design for reliability.
