Civil Engineer – Owner's Engineering (HV Substations)

About the role

Elia Grid International (EGI) is expanding its Owner's Engineering team to support the integration of renewable energy and evolving energy markets. The Civil Engineer will lead civil aspects of high‑voltage substation projects, ensuring quality, budget, schedule, and safety while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across borders.

Key responsibilities

• Define civil engineering requirements for HV substations, including buildings, roads, trenches, steel structures, and cable support systems.
• Develop and review technical guidelines for substation construction and support quality‑assurance activities on site.
• Coordinate project phases from tender preparation and contract award through construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Work with project managers on progress reporting, budget forecasting, scheduling, and construction meetings.
• Assess technical and economic alternatives to inform investment decisions and ensure compliance with standards, regulations, and safety requirements.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• Proven experience on infrastructure projects as a civil, design, consulting, or project‑management engineer.
• Strong knowledge of civil engineering needs for power infrastructure, especially HV substations and associated facilities.
• Experience in civil works planning, design, tendering, supervision, and quality control.
• Professional proficiency in English and German.
