Cyber Detection Engineering Lead

About the role

Airbus Defence and Space is looking for a senior leader to shape its detection engineering strategy. You will design and maintain a high‑fidelity detection ecosystem that turns threat intelligence into actionable security alerts across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Define the long‑term vision for detection engineering and align technical roadmaps with organisational risk profiles.
• Architect, develop and optimise detection rules for the SOC, expanding coverage against MITRE ATT&CK® and Sigma standards.
• Translate cyber‑threat intelligence into proactive detection logic.
• Drive “Detection‑as‑Code” initiatives and build automated response playbooks.
• Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues and mentor junior engineers and analysts.
• Collaborate with Incident Response and SOC teams to ensure context‑rich detections for rapid threat containment.

Required profile

• Degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, IT or equivalent practical experience.
• Proven experience developing use cases and detection logic in a SOC environment, with leadership or mentorship responsibilities.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, empathetic approach to leading cross‑functional teams.
• Offensive mindset with practical background in Red Teaming or Penetration Testing.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• MITRE ATT&CK framework.
• Sigma rule format.
• Automation frameworks for Detection‑as‑Code.
• Deep knowledge of Windows and Linux operating systems, OS internals, system logging and telemetry analysis.
• Red Teaming and Penetration Testing techniques.
