Data & Sanitation Intern

About the role

This 6‑month hybrid internship with the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN‑Habitat) in Bonn supports the Global Water Operators’ Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA). You will work on data‑driven projects that improve water and sanitation services in low‑income urban settings, gaining exposure to UN processes and sustainable development goals.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in planning, implementing and reporting on GWOPA projects.
• Develop and manage knowledge resources and communities of practice.
• Support preparation of global outreach and learning events, including the GWOPA Assembly and World Urban Forum 2026.
• Update the GWOPA Data Portal with monitoring data, observatory information and organization profiles.
• Contribute to project budgeting and financial tracking.
• Draft concept papers, background documents and position papers.
• Perform data management and basic analysis tasks.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a university program related to environmental studies, public policy, international development, data science or a similar field.
• Strong interest in water, sanitation and urban sustainability.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
