Data Scientist – AI-Driven Logistics

About the role

Forto is looking for a Data Scientist to own production‑grade machine‑learning systems that turn unstructured logistics data into structured intelligence. You will work closely with the Engineering Manager across document extraction, vocabulary mapping and classic ML projects, ensuring current systems run smoothly while driving accuracy improvements.

Key responsibilities

• Design, build and maintain end‑to‑end ML pipelines for document extraction, classification and data enrichment in production.
• Create prompt evaluation frameworks and feedback loops to continuously improve extraction accuracy.
• Train custom in‑house models using human‑in‑the‑loop data to move from assisted to fully automated extraction.
• Develop and maintain semantic similarity models that map free‑text to standardized logistics vocabularies.
• Enhance pipeline reliability through redesign, testing, monitoring and alerting of non‑deterministic ML systems.
• Research and introduce disruptive model architectures, fine‑tuning strategies and novel evaluation methods when incremental gains plateau.
• Collaborate with Product Managers to identify user pain points and shape data‑driven product roadmaps.
• Work with Engineering teams on integration, infrastructure and API design to ensure reliable consumption of DS outputs.
• Manage stakeholder expectations by communicating feasibility, setting realistic timelines and flagging risks early.

Required profile

• 2+ years of professional experience in data science or machine‑learning engineering.
• Proven ability to design, deploy and maintain production ML systems.
