DevOps Engineer (Kiel, Germany)

About the role

We are seeking a DevOps Engineer to join a maritime technology client in Kiel, Germany. The position starts as a 24‑month contract with a clear pathway to permanent employment and offers up to 60 % remote work.

Key responsibilities

• Support development and operation of IT platforms for maritime applications within a DevOps squad of four engineers.
• Design, implement, and maintain container and virtualization solutions (Docker/Podman) on Linux and Windows.
• Manage development and testing environments ensuring high reliability and scalability.
• Drive DevOps transformation across teams and embed best practices throughout the software lifecycle.
• Build, maintain, and optimise CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI/CD.
• Automate build, test and deployment workflows.
• Develop reusable containerised platforms and standardized templates for internal and client use.

Required profile

• 6–8 years of professional DevOps experience (senior) or 2–3 years (junior) if senior candidates are unavailable.
• Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related STEM discipline.
• Minimum five years of residence and work experience in Germany (required for security clearance).
• Eligibility according to the client’s approved nationality list.
• Strong German language skills (near‑native preferred).
• Willingness to relocate to or remain long‑term in Kiel.
• Ability to provide German work references (Arbeitszeugnisse).
