Financial Controller – Germany

About the role

Return is looking for a proactive Financial Controller to manage the financial foundations of its German operations. Based in Hamburg, you will oversee accounting, controlling, and reporting for corporate entities and multiple project SPVs across Germany.

Key responsibilities

• Day‑to‑day accounting for German entities, including SPVs, payroll and expense management.
• Cost control for Munich and Berlin office projects and for construction/operational projects.
• Preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements (IFRS knowledge advantageous).
• Coordinate with internal teams, tax advisors and auditors to resolve accounting issues.
• Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable and German payroll in partnership with external service providers.
• Support annual audit processes and treasury activities, including SPV funding and bank drawdowns.
• Handle VAT reporting, tax declarations, and communication with tax authorities.
• Administer project subsidies, annual applications and processing.
• Prepare the finance section of monthly project reports.

Required profile

• Strong affinity for numbers, complex financial structures and ownership of processes.
• Experience in controlling, accounting or project finance within a corporate or SPV environment.
• Ability to work autonomously across multiple locations and collaborate with external partners.
