Freelance Grid Manager – Utility‑Scale BESS Project

About the role

We are supporting a leading renewable energy developer on a utility‑scale Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project near Stuttgart. The freelance Grid Manager will own all grid‑related activities from detailed design through energisation, ensuring successful integration of the BESS asset into the German power network.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the complete grid connection process, from concept design to final energisation.
• Coordinate with transmission system operators (TSOs), distribution system operators (DSOs), consultants, EPC contractors and internal teams.
• Manage grid compliance, connection agreements and technical requirements in line with German grid codes.
• Monitor project milestones, risks and critical interfaces related to grid delivery.
• Support commissioning activities and guarantee seamless integration of the BESS into the grid.

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering grid‑connection packages for renewable energy, battery storage, transmission, distribution or power generation projects.
• Strong knowledge of German grid codes and utility interfaces.
• Demonstrated ability to manage external stakeholders and multidisciplinary project teams.
• Fluent in English; German language skills are highly advantageous.
