Government Affairs Director – Germany

About the role

The Government Affairs Director – Germany will lead the company’s public policy, government relations and regulatory strategy across Germany and the wider European market. Reporting to senior leadership, this senior‑level position shapes high‑level engagement with federal and state authorities, parliament, regulators and key stakeholders to create a favourable regulatory environment for compliant business growth.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and implement the government affairs and lobbying strategy in Germany to support market access, regulatory stability and long‑term growth.
• Develop and maintain trusted relationships with federal and state ministries, parliamentarians, regulators, industry associations and NGOs.
• Monitor, analyse and influence legislative and regulatory processes, participating in consultations, hearings and advocacy initiatives.
• Provide senior leadership with analysis of German political dynamics, regulatory trends and stakeholder positions, delivering risk assessments and response strategies.
• Manage major policy issues and crises, coordinating cross‑functional teams and shaping external positioning.
• Offer expert regulatory guidance on product safety, consumer protection, marketing and compliance to product and business teams.
• Facilitate communication between German regulators and the China‑based headquarters to ensure cross‑border regulatory alignment.
• Travel domestically (30‑40% of the time) to engage federal and state stakeholders.

Required profile

• Extensive lobbying experience in Germany with established political networks.
• Deep expertise in regulated sectors, especially product safety and consumer protection policy.
• Proven ability to work across borders, particularly with China‑based corporate functions.
• Master’s degree or equivalent qualification.
