Head of AI

About the role

Stark is looking for a Head of AI to define and own the company’s AI strategy across both product lines and internal tooling. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will shape AI direction for autonomous defence systems and drive AI‑powered productivity throughout the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own Stark’s AI strategy across product and internal domains, providing clear direction for technical leads.
• Lead AI stack decisions, including model selection, frameworks, MLOps infrastructure, evaluation, and tooling, with final technical accountability.
• Act as connective tissue across teams, identifying and resolving cross‑team AI dependencies and infrastructure gaps.
• Drive internal AI adoption, building developer productivity tools, automation infrastructure, and responsible‑use frameworks.
• Provide technical oversight across all AI workstreams, questioning methodology, adversarial robustness, distribution shift, and operational performance.
• Monitor academic and commercial AI advances and translate relevant findings into strategic inputs for leadership.
• Partner with programme and product leadership to ensure AI solutions meet real mission requirements.
• Raise the AI bar by contributing to senior hiring, defining engineering standards, and representing Stark in the European defence‑AI community.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in AI within complex technical organisations.
• Track record of delivering AI solutions that operate reliably in real‑world, mission‑critical environments.
• Strong ability to influence and collaborate with senior engineering, product, and programme leaders.
• Excellent communication skills to act as Stark’s external AI voice at conferences and industry events.
