Head of Sea Freight

About the role

We are seeking a hands‑on Head of Sea Freight to lead the Hamburg operation of a growing German freight forwarder. The role combines operational leadership with commercial development as the business expands and implements a new TMS platform.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the Sea Freight department in Hamburg, overseeing a team of five FTEs.
• Support day‑to‑day Ocean Freight operations, with a focus on Sea Freight imports.
• Develop and refine operational structures, processes and efficiencies.
• Collaborate with senior management on growth strategy and trade‑lane development.
• Identify commercial opportunities and drive business growth.
• Maintain operational stability in a fast‑paced, international logistics environment.
• Mentor and develop the operational team.

Required profile

• Strong operational Sea Freight background within freight forwarding.
• Hands‑on Ocean Import experience.
• Customs clearance knowledge.
• Previous leadership or team‑management experience.
• Commercial awareness and business‑development exposure.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with a pragmatic approach.
• Experience in mid‑sized forwarders or entrepreneurial settings preferred.
• German language skills are a plus.
