High Voltage Substation Design Engineer

About the role

As a High Voltage Substation Design Engineer you will support the Owner’s Engineering – Substation EPC Services team in delivering complex HV substation projects, including AIS, GIS and hybrid systems. You will own primary technology packages from concept through commissioning, ensuring technical excellence and contributing to the energy transition.

Key responsibilities

• Design and engineer primary systems for AIS, GIS and hybrid substations.
• Develop technical documentation, layouts and engineering drawings using AutoCAD 2D/3D and Primtech.
• Perform electrical design studies including short‑circuit calculations, force analyses, busbar and conductor sizing, thermal and mechanical assessments, insulation coordination, earthing and lightning protection design, and cable sizing.
• Specify, select and dimension high‑voltage equipment and provide inputs for steel structure and foundation design.
• Prepare technical tender documentation and coordinate with civil, structural and multidisciplinary teams.
• Review supplier documentation, support Factory Acceptance Tests and ensure compliance with IEC, EN, DIN, VDE and customer specifications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering with a focus on Power Systems.
• 3‑5 years of experience in primary design and engineering of high‑voltage substations (110‑400 kV), including AIS and/or GIS.
• Strong knowledge of IEC, EN, DIN and VDE standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D/3D, Primtech and Microsoft Office.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and communication skills, fluent in English and able to work in German.
• Valid Class B driving licence.
