In‑House Accountant for Climate Tech Startup

About the role

Join carbmee as its first dedicated in‑house accountant. You will build the accounting function from the ground up, working closely with the Chief of Staff to create scalable finance processes for a fast‑growing climate‑tech startup.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day‑to‑day financial accounting, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger maintenance.
• Perform account reconciliations and support month‑end close and HGB financial statement preparation.
• Oversee billing and revenue accounting for SaaS contracts, including invoicing, revenue recognition, and deferred revenue.
• Run end‑to‑end payroll, coordinate with payroll providers, and ensure compliance with payroll tax and social security regulations.
• Prepare VAT returns, assist with annual financial statements and audits, and collaborate with external tax consultants.
• Identify and implement automation opportunities to improve accounting workflows and support the company’s growth toward three‑times revenue.

Required profile

• 4–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a startup or SME environment.
• Formal qualification such as Steuerfachangestellte/r, Bilanzbuchhalter/in, or equivalent.
• Strong knowledge of German accounting standards (HGB) and hands‑on experience with DATEV.
• Fluent in German (C1+) and English.
• Structured, precise, and comfortable working independently.
