Master Thesis – Flammability Indices Correlation Study

About the role

Airbus Defence and Space is seeking a master‑level student to conduct a six‑month thesis on the correlation between Microscale Combustion Calorimeter (MCC) data and standardized aerospace flammability test methods. The project starts in October 2026 and will be based in the Fire Safety Engineering & Testing department in Bremen.

Key responsibilities

• Perform flammability characterisation of selected aerospace materials using the MCC.
• Complement MCC tests with Mass Loss Calorimeter (MLC) measurements when required.
• Analyse experimental data to identify material families and combustion regimes where MCC indices align with macroscopic standards.
• Map limitations of the correlations and document scale‑effects.
• Contribute to a structured methodology and baseline evaluation framework for small‑scale screening tools.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a Master programme in fire safety engineering, materials science, aerospace engineering or a related field.
• Ability to work safely in a laboratory environment and handle experimental equipment.
• Strong analytical mindset and interest in fire‑science research.

Required skills
