Mechanical Design Engineer – Data Centres (Germany)

About the role

RED, an international M&E consultancy, is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join one of its German offices (Dusseldorf, Berlin or Frankfurt). The role focuses on the design and delivery of mechanical and electrical systems for data centre projects, supporting the company’s zero‑carbon building objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead small‑scale projects from concept through delivery.
• Research, develop, design and coordinate mechanical/electrical installations, systems, equipment and facilities.
• Specify controls, instruments and operating systems for building engineering services.
• Survey, test and report on existing installations.
• Ensure manufacturing, construction, installation and testing meet functional specifications and customer requirements.
• Represent RED at technical meetings with clients, professional teams and contractors.
• Prepare specification modifications using Word or Excel.
• Validate engineering calculations and drawings against industry and legal standards.
• Review and validate input from intermediate and graduate engineers.
• Support project delivery according to RED’s Project Delivery Process, covering project management, financial management, QA/QC and technical review.

Required profile

• Fluent German and professional working proficiency in English.
• Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Working towards Chartered Engineer status.
• Experience in specification design/drawing for at least one building type.
• Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation.
• Ability to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
• Managerial skills and ability to support junior staff.
