Mechanical Design Engineer – Interior Lighting & Switches

About the role

Join Tesla's Vehicle Engineering team in Berlin to design and launch next‑generation interior lighting and switch systems for cutting‑edge automotive products. You will work on the full product lifecycle, from concept through production, collaborating with designers, engineers, and suppliers.

Key responsibilities

• Engineer, develop and release interior lighting and switch assembly systems that meet styling intent and regulatory standards.
• Create novel designs that incorporate emerging technologies such as capacitive touch, time‑of‑flight sensors, and OLED.
• Collaborate with design/styling, firmware, body, exterior, 12V electronics, manufacturing, and supply‑chain teams throughout the product cycle.
• Lead supplier engineering development and maintain comprehensive product development documentation.
• Balance form, function, performance, and cost through iterative stakeholder reviews.

Required profile

• First‑principles, physics‑based problem solving with ability to handle complex, varied scope projects.
• Strong understanding of latest lighting, switch and haptics technologies.
• Experience with complex assemblies including PCBA, sensors, flexible assemblies and enclosures.
• Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing, GD&T, and dimensional engineering principles.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or a related engineering discipline.
