PhD in Lab-on-Chip Sample Preparation for Molecular Diagnostics

About the role

Join Bosch's innovative research team to develop a microfluidic sample‑preparation unit based on magnetic beads for next‑generation molecular diagnostics. The PhD project focuses on creating a scalable, cartridge‑compatible platform that automates target capture, washing, transfer, resuspension, and release.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct literature research on magnetic particle manipulation and develop multiphysics models (e.g., COMSOL) to optimise particle trajectories and fluid interactions.
• Conceptually design and prototype a reusable microfluidic handling module that integrates with disposable diagnostic cartridges.
• Experimentally evaluate system performance, measuring target‑molecule recovery, processing time, and reproducibility.
• Translate modelling results into design rules and deliver transferable models for future product development.

Required profile

• Excellent master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Microsystems Engineering (MEMS) or a related field.
• Ability to work independently, plan tasks carefully, and communicate research findings clearly.
• Strong hands‑on mentality with ownership of work and a passion for interdisciplinary scientific challenges.
