PhD position in nanomedicine for brain cancer immunotherapy

About the role

The Biointerfaces Lab at FAU seeks a motivated PhD candidate to join the Marie Skłodowska‑Curie Doctoral Network INTRABRAIN. The project develops chitosan‑coated nanoparticle systems functionalised with peptides for oncolytic virus encapsulation, aiming to cross the blood‑brain barrier and target glioblastoma cells.

Key responsibilities

• Integrate translocating and targeting peptides into nanoparticle polymer complexes.
• Assess nanoparticle transport in endothelial cell models using fluorescence‑based methods.
• Evaluate tumour‑targeting efficacy in glioblastoma models.
• Collaborate closely with researchers in materials science and bioengineering.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in nanomedicine, biomaterials, pharmaceutical sciences, chemistry, biomedical engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong background in nanomedicine, biomaterials, or related fields.
• Motivated, interdisciplinary mindset and ability to work in a dynamic research team.

Required skills

• Nanoparticle synthesis and chitosan coating.
• Peptide functionalisation techniques.
• Fluorescence microscopy / fluorescence‑based transport assays.
• Cell culture with endothelial and glioblastoma cells.
• Experience with oncolytic virus encapsulation (preferred).
