PhD Thesis: Quantum Sensing for Navigation

About the role

Airbus Defence and Space is seeking a PhD candidate to work on quantum sensing technologies for navigation. The position is based at the Central Research & Technology site in Taufkirchen/Ottobrunn, near Munich, and will start as soon as possible for a three‑year duration.

Key responsibilities

• Develop solutions to integrate state‑of‑the‑art quantum navigation technologies into resilient navigation systems.
• Simulate and analyse hybrid classical‑quantum navigation solutions.
• Define, integrate, and field‑test a flying hardware demonstrator.
• Present research at international conferences and publish in peer‑reviewed journals.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in physics, robotics, aerospace, electrical engineering, quantum technologies or a related technical field.
• Knowledge of classical navigation methods, sensor fusion and state‑estimation theory.
• Solid foundation in mathematics and experience with probabilistic models.
• Fluent English and ability to work in an international research environment.
