Product Control Team Lead

About the role

We are seeking a Product Control Team Lead to join a leading international oil trading business in Hamburg. In this senior‑level position you will head a high‑performing product control team, ensuring accurate daily profit‑and‑loss reporting, valuation oversight and robust financial controls across physical and derivative oil trading activities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead, mentor and develop a product control team, fostering a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement.
• Oversee daily P&L reporting and analysis for physical and derivative oil trades.
• Ensure precise valuation of trading positions and support Independent Price Verification (IPV) processes.
• Challenge and explain P&L movements, providing transparent insight to senior stakeholders.
• Collaborate closely with Front Office, Risk, Operations and Finance to resolve valuation and reporting issues.
• Drive automation, process enhancements and framework improvements within product control.
• Support month‑end close, financial reporting and audit requirements while maintaining a strong control environment.

Required profile

• Significant experience in product control within oil, energy or commodity trading.
• Proven track record of leading or mentoring a product control team.
• Deep understanding of physical and derivative commodity trading and valuation methodologies.
• Strong analytical mindset with the confidence to challenge traders and senior stakeholders.
• Fluent English; German is a plus.
