Range Training Officer (RTO) – Full‑Time at Spangdahlem AB

About the role

The Range Training Officer (RTO) provides operational support to combat aircrew flying and training on 4th and 5th generation fighter aircraft in the European theater. Working on‑site at Spangdahlem Air Base, the RTO enhances realism of air‑to‑air sorties and trains aircrews on ICADS systems and related subsystems.

Key responsibilities

• Interface with government representatives for scheduling, planning and exercise coordination.
• Develop, manage and distribute mission planning documents such as Air Order Directive (AOD), Air Tasking Order (ATO) and Special Instructions (SPINS).
• Create, identify and track Desired Learning Objectives (DLOs) and nominate mission sets to satisfy training goals.
• Coordinate with the intelligence squadron to schedule threat RTOs and ensure appropriate tactical emitter support.
• Perform RTO duties for air‑to‑air and surface‑to‑air scenarios following current Air Force Tactics, Techniques and Procedures.
• Create live/constructive scenarios, monitor progression and provide debrief information on threats and RTO results.
• Maintain and update RTO materials and procedures on an ongoing basis.

Required profile

• Subject‑matter expertise in combat aircrew training for 4th/5th generation fighter aircraft.
• Experience working with USAFE aircrews, Air Combat Training Pod engineers and ICADS systems.
• Ability to coordinate with Wing Weapons and Tactics, intelligence units and government stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of Air Force Tactics, Techniques and Procedures.
