Research Assistant (pre-doc) – 75% Part-time, Berlin

About the role

We are looking for a pre-doctoral research assistant to join the Collaborative Research Center SFB 1759 “Habitability as a fundamental planetary process”. The position is 75 % part-time, fixed-term until 30 June 2030, and offers the possibility to pursue a doctoral degree while contributing to cutting-edge research on planetary habitability.

Key responsibilities

• Investigate the stability and formation pathways of organic compounds on planetary surfaces under relevant physicochemical conditions.
• Design and carry out systematic laboratory and analytical experiments for a variety of solar-system environments.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams spanning natural sciences, social sciences and humanities to integrate scientific results with ethical and communication aspects.
• Document experimental procedures, analyse data and prepare scientific publications and reports.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent) in geosciences, chemistry, planetary science, physics or a related discipline.
• Eligibility to enroll in a doctoral programme at a German university.
• Strong interest in interdisciplinary research on planetary habitability.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
