Research Assistant (Pre-Doc) – 75% Part‑Time

About the role

The Collaborative Research Center SFB 1759 seeks a pre‑doctoral research assistant to join its interdisciplinary team investigating planetary habitability. The position is 75 % part‑time and offers the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree while contributing to cutting‑edge research on the physicochemical processes of icy moons.

Key responsibilities

• Experimentally and theoretically simulate alteration and transformation of materials originating from Enceladus’ interior.
• Analyse and interpret data on trace elements and potential biosignatures detected in space.
• Collaborate with natural‑science, social‑science and humanities researchers to integrate scientific findings with ethical and communication aspects.
• Prepare scientific reports, publications and presentations for conferences.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in geology, planetary science, chemistry, physics or a related field.
• Strong interest in planetary habitability, astrobiology and interdisciplinary research.
• Excellent written and spoken English.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse research team.
