Research Associate – Scale Interactions in a Warming Arctic

About the role

The Climate, Climatic Change, and Society (CLICCS) Cluster of Excellence seeks a Research Associate to investigate how extreme weather events influence CO2 flux dynamics in the Arctic tundra. The position is part‑time (65 % of full‑time) and fixed‑term until 31 August 2029.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic services for the CLICCS project and support the structured doctoral program.
• Conduct and support micrometeorological measurements using an eddy covariance system during field expeditions to Disko Island, West Greenland.
• Process and analyse eddy covariance land‑atmosphere flux data to assess the impact of heatwaves and storms on permafrost stability and carbon release.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners (e.g., Max Planck Institute for Meteorology, Helmholtz Centre Hereon) on climate modelling, laboratory experiments, and observational data integration.

Required profile

• Background in Earth system sciences, climate science, or a related discipline.
• Ability to work in remote Arctic field conditions and conduct high‑precision measurements.
• Motivation to pursue further academic qualifications, including doctoral studies, within the SICSS doctoral program.
