Researcher – Political Institutions & Conflict (75% Part‑time)

About the role

The Max Planck Institute for the Political and Social Science is seeking a motivated researcher to join the Department of Political Institutions and Conflict. Working under Prof. Dr. Ursula Daxecker, you will contribute to projects on Indian politics, including democracy support, political violence, and election integrity.

Key responsibilities

• Collect, code, process, and analyze observational and survey data.
• Process and code qualitative data from news articles.
• Conduct literature reviews and assist with manuscript editing.
• Prepare data visualizations, tables, and other research outputs.
• Carry out fieldwork and interviews in relevant locations.
• Support administrative tasks such as organizing seminars, managing data, and disseminating findings.
• Maintain regular on‑site presence and collaborate with the department’s research community.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Political Science, Economics, or a closely related field.
• Advanced quantitative and computer skills with proven experience in Stata, Python, and/or R.
• Experience using qualitative analysis software (e.g., Atlas.ti).
• Familiarity with LaTeX, Overleaf, or Markdown.
• Demonstrated interest and expertise in Indian politics; willingness to expand regional knowledge.
• Excellent oral and written communication in English and Hindi and/or Bengali.
• Strong independent thinking, critical analysis, and ability to work in an interdisciplinary team.
