Satellite Operations Engineer – Meteosat Missions

About the role

Join an international spacecraft operations team supporting EUMETSAT’s Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) and Meteosat Third Generation (MTG) missions from the Mission Control Centre in Darmstadt. You will ensure the safe and continuous operation of weather‑forecasting satellites that serve Europe and the world.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and support safe in‑orbit operations of MSG and MTG spacecraft.
• Perform routine and contingency operations, including manoeuvres, eclipses, calibrations and recovery activities.
• Investigate spacecraft anomalies and contribute to corrective actions.
• Maintain operational procedures, mission databases, tools and configuration baselines.
• Support spacecraft simulators, mission control systems and automation tools.
• Participate in standby/on‑call rotations and support LEOP, commissioning and validation phases.
• Review deliverables from manufacturers such as FOMs, MIBs, simulators and OBSW documentation.

Required profile

• Degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Telecommunications or a related field.
• Experience in spacecraft or mission operations engineering.
• Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems and operational environments.
• Proven ability to investigate anomalies and follow operational procedures.
• Strong analytical and technical communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Python programming.
• Java programming.
• VBA scripting.
• Experience with SCOS‑2000 or similar mission control systems.
• Knowledge of spacecraft subsystems (AOCS, EPS, TCS, TT&C, OBSW).
• Familiarity with ECSS operational standards (desirable).
