Secondary English Teacher – Maternity Cover (Full‑time)

About the role

We are seeking a full‑time Secondary English Teacher to cover a maternity leave starting in August at Berlin Metropolitan School, an international all‑day school in central Berlin. The role involves delivering engaging English lessons to students from lower secondary through to the senior years.

Key responsibilities

• Differentiate English lessons to meet varying levels of knowledge and ability.
• Design and deliver enjoyable, stimulating, and relevant lessons.
• Plan, prepare, monitor, assess, report and provide feedback in line with the school curriculum and policies.
• Employ teaching, learning and assessment strategies that support individual student needs.
• Maintain high expectations and ensure progress relative to prior attainment.
• Stay current with subject knowledge and incorporate research‑based improvements.
• Create a secure, respectful learning environment where students feel safe to take risks.
• Support and model the International Baccalaureate mission and learner profile.

Required profile

• Qualified secondary English teacher with experience teaching diverse, international student groups.
• Commitment to high standards of practice and continuous professional development.
• Ability to work collaboratively within an international school community.
• Flexibility to adapt lessons for a range of abilities and to cover a fixed‑term maternity period.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using classroom technology and digital learning resources.
