Senior Accountant – Finance Lead for Berlin Tech Startup

About the role

We are a Berlin‑based technology start‑up that has recently been acquired and is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to strengthen and scale our finance function. This permanent, hands‑on role combines strong technical accounting expertise with a digital mindset and a passion for process improvement.

Key responsibilities

• Own end‑to‑end accounting activities, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger and fixed‑asset accounting.
• Perform accurate reconciliations and maintain high‑quality records across multiple legal entities.
• Prepare monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with HGB (German GAAP) and IFRS.
• Support consolidation activities and prepare VAT returns.
• Identify and implement automation opportunities, optimizing interfaces between operational systems, DATEV and other finance tools.
• Improve AP/AR workflows through technology and process enhancements.
• Develop cost‑centre and cost‑unit accounting structures to increase financial transparency.
• Establish and monitor KPIs for management reporting and decision‑making.
• Drive faster, more efficient financial closing processes.
• Collaborate with Sales and Product teams to assess the financial impact of new initiatives.

Required profile

• Several years of accounting experience, ideally as a Senior Accountant or Accounting Lead.
• Certified Accountant (Bilanzbuchhalter/in) or equivalent professional qualification.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a growing SME, start‑up or scale‑up environment.
• Proven ability to manage accounting activities end‑to‑end.
• Strong knowledge of HGB and IFRS standards, consolidation and financial reporting.
• Extensive experience with DATEV, including DATEV Unternehmen Online and digital invoicing.
