Senior Backend Engineer – Card & Transaction Platform (EU/UK Remote)

About the role

The Card & Transaction Platform team is responsible for Pliant's most critical backend flows, including card issuance and transaction processing. You will ensure high availability, reliability, and continuous delivery of new features while keeping the platform fast and stable.

Key responsibilities

• Define, measure, and improve SLOs/SLAs and error budgets for critical services.
• Help evolve and scale the platform to keep pace with a growing customer base and rising request volumes.
• Own observability across dashboards, alerting, tracing, and logging using Datadog, and drive performance improvements.
• Design, build, and ship new product features end‑to‑end across Java/Spring Boot microservices.
• Participate in a 24/7 on‑call rotation, lead incident response and conduct blameless post‑mortems.

Required profile

• 5+ years of experience building and operating modern distributed backend services on Java/Spring Boot, AWS, Kafka, and PostgreSQL.
• Proven track record with high‑availability systems and scaling under growing load.
• Strong understanding of observability, SLO/SLA management and a proactive ownership mindset.
